Vintage White Ceramic Mortar & Pestle
Vintage White Ceramic Mortar & Pestle
A large white ceramic mortar and pestle by Typhoon, based on the traditional pharmacy and apothecary mortar shape. Made in glossy white ceramic, the mortar has a deep bowl, pronounced pouring lip and pedestal base, together with its substantial matching pestle. A simple piece of kitchenware that also has the look of traditional chemist's equipment, making it equally good displayed on an open kitchen shelf or amongst a collection of apothecary pieces, as well as still being able to be used as intended

More About This Piece
The deep bowl, flared rim, pouring lip and pedestal foot follow a form long associated with pharmacy and apothecary mortars, where ingredients were ground with a pestle before being poured or transferred. This example was made by Typhoon as a practical kitchen mortar and pestle, but retains that traditional chemist's look.
Condition
Good used condition with light marks and signs of previous use. Both the mortar and matching pestle are present. Please refer to the photographs for the overall condition of the glazed ceramic.
Why We Love It
We like how straightforward this one is – glossy white ceramic, a chunky pestle and that exaggerated pouring lip. It looks particularly good on an open kitchen shelf and would sit brilliantly alongside French kitchen pottery and apothecary pieces.
