A chunky rustic wooden trug with a wonderfully weathered pale surface and a simple, heavy construction. The inside is split into two equal square sections using the same wood as a divider, with a tall central wooden handle rising through the middle and substantial boards held together with visible iron nails. Originally made as a practical carrying and storage piece, it's now a great bit of rustic storage for the kitchen, boot room or potting shed – fill it with vegetables, kindling, gardening bits or use the two compartments to display pots and plants.

More About This Piece

This is a particularly chunky example, made from substantial boards rather than lightweight basket-style construction. A central divider creates two equal square compartments, while the tall upright handle makes the whole piece feel almost architectural. The pale weathered surface, visible nail heads, knocks and marks have all been left as found.

Condition

Good used condition with plenty of wear from previous use. There are knocks, marks, splits, staining, surface variation and signs of historic woodworm. The timber has a heavily weathered finish and the iron fixings show age and oxidation. All part of its previous working life.

Why We Love It

We like how solid and uncomplicated this is. The two square compartments make it genuinely useful, but it's the chunky boards, huge central handle and washed-out timber that make it for us. Particularly good filled with terracotta pots or sitting on a kitchen worktop with vegetables piled into either side.
