A substantial wicker log basket reclaimed on one of our recent buying trips to France. This is a particularly sturdy, well-made example, with thick woven wicker built around a solid branch frame and a large steamed carrying handle. The tall sides keep logs contained while the open front makes them easy to reach beside the fire. Genuinely useful, but also a really good-looking piece of old basketware, combining warm natural tones with the irregularities of hand-worked wood and wicker. A stylish and practical way to keep logs neatly stored beside a wood burner or open fire & one of a kind.

More About This Piece

What immediately stood out to us was the quality of the construction. Rather than relying entirely on woven wicker for its strength, the basket is built around a substantial solid branch frame, with thick uprights, rails and a large arched handle all bound together with wicker.

The deep rectangular shape provides plenty of room for firewood, while the lower front makes loading and reaching for logs much easier. It’s exactly the sort of practical household piece we look for on our French buying trips — made to do a job properly and still capable of doing it years later.

Condition

Very good reclaimed condition with wear, marks, colour variation and small irregularities to the wicker and wooden frame from previous use. The basket remains substantial and sturdy. Please study the photographs as these form part of the condition description.

Why We Love It

The construction on this one is brilliant. It’s thick, sturdy and properly substantial, with that solid branch frame giving it a completely different feel to a lightweight modern log basket.
