Pale Oak Tall Cupboard with Drawers

The sandblasting has completely changed this cupboard, taking away the darker original finish and revealing the grain and much softer natural colour of the oak underneath. Rather than applying a new stain or heavy finish, we’ve simply sealed it with clear wax.

We’ve kept the details that made us buy it in the first place. The two drawers retain their original drop handles with flower-shaped backplates, while the cupboard door has its original key and that brilliant long metal hinge running almost the full height of the door.

Inside, the shelf can be repositioned using a traditional and very simple system. Wooden support bars sit within grooves running up the inside of the cupboard, allowing the shelf height to be altered depending on what you want to store.

Good solid used condition with marks, knocks, minor imperfections and signs of previous use remaining throughout. The original finish has been sandblasted away and the exposed oak sealed with clear wax. Original handles, key and door hardware have been retained.

That long hinge was probably enough to sell it to us, but the proportions are what make this such a useful piece. It gives you drawers and cupboard storage without the width of a larger chest or sideboard, and the newly exposed pale oak works brilliantly with the old dark metalwork.
