A lovely original oil painting on canvas depicting two fishing boats moored beside a harbour wall. Painted with loose, expressive brushstrokes, the artist has used a predominantly blue and white palette, punctuated by the brilliant red of one boat and softer red details throughout the scene. Reflections of the boats are picked up in the water below, while the roughly worked sky and sea give the painting plenty of movement. Signed by the artist in the lower left corner and left unframed, allowing the painted canvas to do all the work. A great piece of original coastal art for anywhere that could take a bit of colour.

More About This Piece

There’s a wonderfully loose quality to this painting. The boats, harbour wall, water and sky are all described with quick, visible brushstrokes rather than precise detail, giving it an immediate, slightly naïve feel.

The red and blue boats sit right at the centre of the composition, with their colours reflected into the water below. We particularly like the limited palette – lots of soft blues, grey and white with just enough red to pull your eye into the picture.

It's painted directly onto canvas and displayed without a frame, which suits the informal nature of the work.

Why We Love It

We bought this for the boats and that strong flash of red against all the blue. It feels loose and unfussy, and the reflections in the water are particularly good.
