Large Chinese stoneware preserve jars with beautifully textured surfaces and an unusual olive green glaze. Originally made as practical storage vessels for preserved foods and other household provisions, these jars have broad rounded shoulders, narrow openings and generous proportions. Perfect placed on the floor in the corner of a sitting room, hallway or bedroom, or filled with tall dried branches, seed heads and grasses. They also look fantastic displayed empty, either individually or together. Each has a slightly different shape and surface treatment, with bands of impressed markings and closely spaced incised lines creating plenty of texture beneath the glaze. Their muted green colour has wonderful variations, with areas of exposed clay, darker markings and natural imperfections.

Delivery: Due to their size, weight and fragile nature, these jars are difficult to send by standard courier. Please get in touch before purchasing to discuss delivery, as we may be able to arrange hand delivery.

Condition

Good antique condition with surface wear, glaze variations, small chips, scuffs and areas of exposed clay consistent with previous use. The incised decoration and glaze finish vary between the two jars. Please refer to the photographs for individual condition.

We recommend decorative use only. If displaying fresh flowers, use a separate watertight container inside, as we cannot guarantee the jars are watertight.

Why We Love It

It's the olive green glaze and incredible texture that caught our eye. The two jars have quite different shapes, but they work beautifully together. We'd place one on the floor in a quiet corner with a few tall dried seed heads, or simply leave it empty.
