A lovey French oak carver chair with a particularly wide rush seat and a lower, more relaxed back than we usually find. The shaped back is made up of three curved rails with a simple decorative profile, echoed by the gently shaped arms and upright frame. The woven rush seat is in a natural golden tone and sits beautifully against the warm time worn wood. Its generous width makes it a great occasional chair for a bedroom, hallway or sitting room, or pulled up to the end of a farmhouse dining table.

More About This Piece

What makes this chair slightly different is its proportion. The seat is noticeably broad while the back sits lower than many traditional French carver chairs, giving it a more relaxed shape. Three shaped horizontal rails form the open back, with the same gentle curves continuing through the arms and frame. The natural rush seat has been tightly woven and provides a good contrast against the wood.

Condition

Good used condition with knocks, scratches, marks and variations to the wood consistent with previous use. The rush seat is in good condition with some natural variation to the weave. Please refer to the photographs for overall condition.

Why We Love It

It's the proportions that got us. The unusually wide seat and lower curved back make it feel much less formal than a typical carver, while the shaped rails add just enough detail. We'd put it at the end of a big French farmhouse table.
