Handthrown Studio Pottery Plate with splatter glaze
Handthrown Studio Pottery Plate with splatter glaze
A striking piece of studio pottery by Miranda in Cornwall, with a bold, almost abstract splatter glaze that makes it feel more like a piece of art than an everyday plate. Use it for serving bread, cakes or sharing dishes, or let it take centre stage on a shelf or coffee table. The natural brown stoneware has a gently raised rim, while lively splashes of turquoise, deep blue and white scatter across the surface in an irregular, painterly pattern. Individually hand-thrown and glazed, this is a one-off piece with plenty of visual interest.

More About This Piece
Handmade by Miranda in Cornwall, this stoneware plate has been individually thrown on the potter's wheel and finished with an expressive, free-flowing glaze. The natural brown stoneware provides an earthy background for the contrasting splashes of blue, turquoise and white. The colours scatter and overlap across the surface, creating an abstract pattern that feels almost like a painting.
A gently raised rim frames the decoration and gives the plate a practical shape for serving food. It's lovely for presenting a slice of cake, pastries, biscuits or a selection of small bites, but the painted surface is interesting enough to enjoy purely as decoration. Try displaying it upright on a plate stand, propping it against the back of an open shelf or grouping it with other pieces of studio pottery.
Individually thrown and glazed, this is a one-off piece with its own distinctive pattern and finish.
Condition
New, handmade studio pottery. Natural variations in shape, glaze and surface finish are part of the hand-making process.
Why We Love It
The mix of blue, white and green is particularly lovely, with the colours creating an interesting finish across the plate. We like that it's equally at home serving something delicious or simply sitting on a shelf where the glaze can be appreciated.
