Hand Blown French Green Glass Demi John

Demi johns were traditionally used for transporting and storing liquids including wine, cider, oils and spirits, making this a particularly appropriate find from the Bordeaux region. Hand blown glass naturally has subtle irregularities in its shape and surface, which distinguish it from later machine-made bottles. Its smaller proportions also make it much easier to place in the home than the huge demi johns often found.

We've chosen not to clean the exterior. The dusty, cloudy surface softens the green glass and is exactly how we wanted to keep it. It could of course be cleaned if you prefer a clearer finish.

Good used condition with marks, scratches, surface deposits and irregularities from previous use. The bottle has intentionally not been cleaned and is being sold with the surface exactly as photographed. As with any hand blown glass of this type, small bubbles and variations may be present.

The smaller size is what sold this one to us. You still get that big rounded demi john shape and deep green glass, but in proportions that actually work on a table or piece of furniture. And we definitely wouldn't clean it – the cloudy surface makes the green far more interesting.
