French Round Drop Leaf Kitchen Table

The warm colour of the top is the natural timber rather than a stain. Once the previous finish was removed, these rich honey, orange and reddish tones were revealed and we’ve simply finished the wood with natural wax. The timber may be cherry, which was traditionally used in French furniture and would be consistent with the colour and grain, although without further evidence we prefer to leave the exact species open.

Both sides operate independently using pull-out wooden supports beneath the top. Fully open, you have a proper round dining table; raise a single leaf for everyday use by one or two people; or drop both sides when space is needed.

The castors are a later addition by us. They bring what was originally a slightly lower table up to a much more comfortable height for modern dining chairs while also making it easier to move around a smaller kitchen.

Good solid used condition with the knocks, marks and irregularities expected from an older French table. The top has been stripped and finished with natural wax. The base has been freshly painted in a distressed French grey, deliberately allowing areas beneath to show through. Castors have been added to bring the table up to modern dining height.

It’s a particularly good table for a small kitchen. You can have the full round table when people are over, use half of it for everyday meals, then fold both leaves away when you want the space back. We also love that stripping the top revealed those deep orange and reddish tones rather than the pale wood we might have expected.
