A lovely decorative cooking pot with its original lid, finished in a deep brown glaze with hand-painted cream, green and orange floral decoration. The inside has a contrasting pale cream glaze, while the long side handle and domed lid give it a great shape for display. Far too good to hide in a cupboard – we'd have this sitting on a kitchen dresser or open shelf amongst a collection of pottery.

More About This Piece

Originally made as a practical cooking vessel, this piece has a saucepan-like form with a long hollow handle and separate fitted lid. The hand-painted floral decoration runs around both the body and lid, combining cream flowers, green leaves and small orange details against the dark brown glaze. Today we'd use it purely for display, particularly amongst mixed pottery on a kitchen dresser.

Condition

Good used condition with wear from previous use, including marks, scratches, glaze variation and small areas of loss around the rim and edges. The lid is present and the painted decoration remains strong. We recommend this piece for decorative use rather than cooking.

Why We Love It

We bought this one for the decoration. The dark brown glaze and almost folk-art floral pattern are brilliant together, and having the original lid makes it even better. Exactly the sort of piece we'd mix into a kitchen dresser rather than display on its own.
