Antique French Oak Drop Leaf Kitchen Table
Antique French Oak Drop Leaf Kitchen Table
A beautiful old French oak drop leaf table with a stripped and waxed top and wonderfully worn painted base in a sage green. The circular top is formed from wide oak boards, with two drop leaves allowing the table to be opened up for dining or folded down when space is limited. Turned and fluted legs and the old painted finish gives the base a lovely faded, timeworn look. Some historic wear to the bottoms of the legs

More about this piece
Hand sourced by us in France, this is a really good example of the kind of table we love finding – useful, unfussy and with plenty of evidence of its previous life still intact.
Made from oak, the top has been stripped back and waxed, revealing the warm colour, grain and natural variation of the timber. Both sides drop down, transforming the table from a generous round kitchen or dining table into a much narrower piece when not required.
Underneath, the base has been left with its wonderfully worn old painted finish. The legs are particularly lovely, combining turned sections with long fluted details and remnants of soft, faded paint.
There is some historic rot and deterioration around the bottoms of the legs, which we've deliberately photographed clearly. It's very much part of the age of this table rather than something we're trying to disguise, and this has been taken into account in both the condition and price.
A great table for a country kitchen, smaller dining room or anywhere that needs the flexibility of a drop leaf design.
Condition
This is an old, well-used table and shows plenty of age. There is historic wear to the bottoms of the legs, clearly shown in the photographs & old worm holes that have been treated as a precaution. Please study all images carefully as these form part of the condition description.
Why we love it
The contrast is what makes this one for us – warm stripped oak above and that faded, almost chalky painted base underneath. Add in those fluted legs and the practical drop leaves and you've got a proper old French kitchen table that's ready for plenty more use.
