19th Century French Cherry Wood Farmhouse Dining Table
19th Century French Cherry Wood Farmhouse Dining Table
A substantial 19th-century French farmhouse dining table made from cherry wood, with a wide planked top, scalloped apron and simple tapered legs. A long drawer at each end gives useful storage while adding to the traditional farmhouse construction. The cherry has a rich, warm tone with characterful marks and wear across the boards from generations of use. The table also comes with two poplar wood extension leaves, not pictured, which simply slide into either end when additional table space is needed. A proper French farmhouse table with generous proportions for a kitchen or dining room.

More About This Piece
The table has all the details we look for in French farmhouse furniture: a substantial planked top, simple tapered legs, a shaped scalloped apron and a long drawer at either end. The two additional poplar leaves slide directly into the ends of the table, allowing it to be extended when needed and removed again without permanently increasing its footprint. The contrast between the cherry table and paler poplar extensions also reflects their straightforward functional purpose rather than trying to disguise them as part of the original top.
Condition
Good antique condition with plenty of evidence of previous use. The planked top has knocks, scratches, marks, colour variation, historic repairs and movement between the boards consistent with a 19th-century farmhouse table. There is further wear to the legs, apron and drawers. The two poplar extension leaves are included if required and are not pictured.
Why We Love It
This is exactly how we like a French farmhouse table – uncomplicated, generous and with nothing trying too hard. The wide cherry planks have years of marks across them, while the scalloped apron and drawers at either end give it just enough detail. The removable extensions are a real bonus too, particularly if you want a table that can grow when you've got a house full.
