What Makes Us Different
One of the things we’ve always loved about the antiques and interiors world is that there’s room for everyone. Over the years, we’ve met and got to know a lot of people within the trade, and one thing quickly becomes obvious—every business has its own style. We have built Relish around our love of modern, rustic design. We want our products to sit effortlessly in customers homes whilst enhancing rooms with a sense of timeless quality.
There’s healthy competition, of course, but there’s also a shared appreciation for quality, craftsmanship, and finding pieces that people genuinely connect with in their homes. So naturally, people often ask what makes us different here at Relish. And honestly, the answer is probably much simpler than people expect.
Relish is just us.
We’re a husband and wife business, and unlike many larger companies, there isn’t a big team behind the scenes here in South Devon. We don’t have staff sourcing for us, photographing products, restoring furniture, packing orders, or answering emails. Every part of the business is handled by the two of us.
Every piece you see has been chosen by us personally & if we wouldn’t have it in our own home, we won’t buy it for the business.
Sourcing Pieces Ourselves
We genuinely enjoy the hunt for unusual pieces that we have never seen before, whether that’s walking around a brocante in France, searching through an antique centre, or driving across the country for one special item. Sometimes we’ll travel hundreds of miles for a single piece if we feel it’s worth it.
Most of what we sell has been individually sourced and individually chosen by us.
We Don’t Chase Trends
One thing we’ve consciously avoided doing is trend chasing. We buy pieces because they have a great rustic appeal, because they are timeless, or because we know our customers would love to have it in their home, not because social media tells us we should. We think customers can feel the difference in that approach.
Restoration, Preparation & Photography
If a piece needs restoration, cleaning, waxing, repairing, or preparing before sale, we do it ourselves wherever possible in our workshop near Kingsbridge. Every product is styled and photographed by Shaun, while Amy manages all of the website editing and presentation.
We want customers to feel confident that what they see is an honest representation of what they’re buying. We work this way so we better understand our products, we are always on hand to answer any questions and are more than happy to provide more images, more specific measurements or deal with delivery needs.
Customer Service Matters to Us Personally
If there’s one thing that probably sits at the centre of the business more than anything else, it’s customer service. When something goes right, we feel proud of it—and if something goes wrong, we feel that personally too - thankfully this isn't something that happens very often. If something is our fault, we’ll always take responsibility and do everything we can to put it right for our customers.
Delivering Pieces Ourselves
Over the last few years, we’ve also started carrying out more of our own deliveries where possible. There’s something really rewarding about seeing where pieces end up and meeting the people who have chosen them for their homes. We actively welcome pictures of your purchases in situ and look froward to receiving them and featuring them on our socials.
We also have a trusted network of couriers that we work alongside, who’s values align with our own.
Over the years we have built real, valued relationships with our customers, many of whom have been coming back year after year…..You know who you are! Thank you.
Why We Don’t Really Do Sales
We believe in Fair pricing from the start, so we don’t do sales. We believe hiking prices just to be able to lower them during a sale is disingenuous. Our prices are always considered & competative. In such a bust marketplace we feel this is best practice for trust and transparency.
Quality Over Quantity
We’d much rather spend time sourcing a handful of really interesting, well-made pieces than fill the website with stock simply for the sake of volume, and we always hope our selection of stock shows this.
Quality is always at the centre of our decision-making.
Building Relationships, Not Just Orders
Over time, one of the most rewarding parts of running Relish has been seeing customers return again and again. Customers know that if there’s ever an issue, we’ll sort it quickly.
At the time of writing, we currently have a 4.9-star rating on Google reviews.
As with anything in life we don’t always get everything right but if something goes wrong we want customers to feel we can be approached and know that we truly care about making things right.
Looking Ahead
If you buy from Relish, you’re buying directly from us.
Every item has been chosen by, handled by and photographed by us - before being carefully packed and sent to you.
Ultimately, all we really want is for customers to love the pieces as much as we loved finding them in the first place.
