How can we add character & warmth back into our modern kitchens
Traditionally the kitchen is the heart of any home, and a space that needs to cover a range of uses and functions. Whether using it to cook for family, gather with friends or just as your private sanctuary to get away from it all, it remains the hub of the modern home.
As we all lead increasingly busy lives, in recent times there has been a trend towards the “easy” kitchen. A space which can still act as this hub but with a focus on ease of use and speedy cleaning. This has meant the rustic, warm, inviting kitchens of the past have increasingly given way to more clinical, easy to manage spaces. Utilising materials such as stainless steel, plastics and glass. Whilst for some this is the idea of kitchen heaven, it does beg the question how can we add character and warmth back into these spaces without compromising the longevity that these modern materials offer. Here at Relish we believe the answer is to add a touch of rustic charm into your kitchen using one or two reclaimed pieces.
Whether built in or freestanding adding a workbench can have many benefits. They can offer extra storage (open or hidden) perhaps you need somewhere that you can add stools for extra seating, they also make great surfaces for food preparation. Having already stood the test of time as reliable workhorses for may years they offer everything the modern kitchen demands whilst offering an easy way to make your space unique to you.
Whilst many of our customers love the fact that our workbenches come with a story, years of use add distinctive markings, we understand that they need to be practical and clean for use, so they always undergo a full clean and restored where needed in our workshop. Another benefit of using a work bench in your home is that they almost always have solid tops, and whether wood or metal with a little effort they can be easily refinished if they get marked, a boast that many modern materials do not share. It is also nice to know that you need not worry should you burn, cut or mark your bench its not the end of the world, in fact it could be the beginning of a new story.
